Usage in S. elongatus PCC7942

The iGEM team from Brown-Stanford 2011 utilized a cscB coding gene inspired from the research of Daniel Ducat and Pamela Silver at Harvard Medical School. We measured exported by HPAEC-PAD at different selection pressures and NaCl concentrations. From this work, we observed a maximum of 1,4 mM in the extracellular medium after 7 days of induction at 150 mM NaCl. However, there was a concordant drop in OD suggesting that rerouting carbonflux to the extracellular matrix is growth inhibiting. Furthermore, it was also observed that higher NaCl concentrations diretly led to loss of OD which may be the result of cell death which could be confirmed by viability assesment in future experiments.
